Snow on Table Mountain blesses 2010 FIFA World Cup™

Table Mountain turned into a snow-capped winter wonderland on Tuesday, June 15. “When we opened the Cableway this morning we noticed that there was a light dusting of snow on the pathways and viewing decks,” said Table Mountain Cableway CEO Sabine Lehmann.

“It looks just like a winter wonderland and it lets us see the mountain in a completely different light. It’s an absolute blessing, especially for locals who don’t get to see snow very often,” continued Lehmann. “It’s also particularly special today as we haven’t seen snow for about two years.”

Table Mountain – a premier destination for kids

The Winter Wonderland activity centre on Table Mountain is a premier destination for the kids of Cape Town, especially during the extra-long winter school holidays. And with our winter family special – where two kids under 18 years ride for free when accompanied by a full-paying adult – coming to the summit is a pocket-friendly and entertaining excursion for the whole family.

The Winter Wonderland activity centre has been quite the hive of activity lately. Our loveable characters – Misty the Cloud Fairy, Dale and Dora the dassies, Mother Nature and Egyptian Pharaoh Cleopatra – have been enthralling kids with their antics and, with a range of craft activities on offer, children can take more than their memories of a day on Table Mountain home with them.

Lucille Cornelius – the business of going the extra mile

Meet Lucille Cornelius. She is a team leader for Table Mountain Cableway’s three souvenir shops, including the Shop at the Top, as well as the goods-receiving and storage room, and considers doing her job – part of which entails travelling up and down in the cable car at least 10 times a day – a true privilege.

What’s been the highlight of working at Table Mountain Cableway so far?

Definitely the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. It’s a very exciting time and I get to meet tons of people. I must make special mention of the Mexicans: they’re amazing customers (buying almost everything in sight) and they are very friendly. And the Brazilians! I have never seen so many beautiful people in my life.

BeenThere.tv a huge hit

The newly installed BeenThere.tv camera at the Upper Cable Station has been overwhelmingly popular with over 2 000 images taken in one week alone! Visitors can’t seem to pass up the opportunity to have their picture taken at the top of Table Mountain, view it online and share it with friends and family around the world – and it’s absolutely free.

As you can see from this picture of a thumb puppet, visitors have been getting up to all sorts of shenanigans in front of the BeenThere.tv camera.
